Granite Worktops

A completely stone product available in a variety of different colours.

If you are looking for a new or replacement worktop which will combine natural beauty with steadfast endurance, you need to consider granite. One billion years after being forged from molten magma beneath the Earth’s Crust, your carefully selected and cut-to-measure granite will give your kitchen a unique and stylish finish that will look good for many years to come.

The advantages of choosing granite

Although granite is generally thought of as an expensive option, it is certainly the most durable kitchen worktop available – it really will take whatever you can throw at it. But is strength is not the only reason to pick granite:

  • Granite comes in a range of extraordinary natural colours and patterns
  • The second hardest stone after diamond, granite is scratch and heat resistant
  • Granite does not suffer water damage around the sink
  • It is naturally bacteria resistant and germs don’t thrive on its surface
  • Granite will quite literally never wear out
  • Its natural beauty cannot be matched by man made products and every piece of granite is unique

From the rock face to your kitchen

Granite is quarried all over the world and where your worktop comes from will depend upon the colour you choose. The colour of granite is determined by the presence of certain minerals such as feldspar and can range from white, through pink, reds, and brown, to greens, blue, grey and silver, and even pure black.

Our suppliers can provide high quality granite in whatever colour you require, though the scarcity of the colour will govern the price. The fitters will measure your kitchen and make a template so the granite can be cut for an exact fit. Generally granite worktops are 30mm in depth but it can be cut to 40mm or 20mm depending upon the application.

Granite requires very little ongoing maintenance, though depending upon the particular type of granite you choose the surface may be sealed to make it less porous. Spills should be wiped up quickly to prevent the possibility of staining and it is not recommended that you use your granite worktop as a cutting surface. Particularly porous granites may need to be resealed once or twice a year, although this is a simple process that you will be able to do yourself.
